2026 Club Registration
To begin the process to get involved for the 2026 season, please join us for a workout scheduled for Sunday, December 28th at the HTRC facility in Iowa City (info + register here) You can also get club updates via our mailing list; please email info@redzoneia.com to request being added to that.

Historical Notes
RedZone launched the RoyalZ girls football club in the spring of 2025. A group of 50+ participants completed a 6-week training schedule that culminated with playing in the Iowa girl's state football tournament, the first and only one available in the area. Members have continued to train with the club as the number of girls football teams and events is expected to explode for the 2026 spring & summer season.

Age Groups
The RoyalZ will look to field teams in the 10u, 12u, 14u and 18u age divisions in 2026.

Team Makeup
We are an open registration club based in the Iowa City area. This means our teams are open to anyone from any school/community and players don't have to 'make' the club via a tryout (though ability may be considered if we have multiple teams at a given age group). We prioritize player development and team building. When those are present, everyone wins regardless of the scores.

Administration & Coaching
With the RoyalZ club, you can expect a top layer of objective, non-parent leadership that is invested in the development and experience of every player. These leaders are adept at implementing our systems and have the most influence with decisions based on playing time, key positions, and other strategic considerations. That being said, we also rely on parent coaching too in order to be efficient at practice and to cover multiple teams playing at the same time in tournaments. These parents are quasi-volunteers; there are some benefits available for parent coaches and they are expected to be present for the large majority of team events, not just 'when I can be there.' Preference is given to those previously involved with the program and/or other football coaching.

Tournament Schedule

Our 2026 tournament schedule is still TBD. We will aim to play in 5 events between April and July. These are typically one-day, weekend events hosted by MidAmerica 7v7 (formerly Iowa 7v7) and their affiliate clubs. They will be located within a 2-hour drive of Iowa City and do not require a hotel stay.

Practice
Generally, teams will practice in the Iowa City area once or twice per week (more heavily during game weeks). Practices days are still TBD but generally begin in mid-March and last 90 minutes.

2025 royalz recap

We couldn't have had a better launch to our girls club than we did in the spring of 2025. More than 50 girls in grades 3rd-9th and an all-star lineup of coaches were part of the first RoyalZ teams ever. The groups practiced hard, showcased their skills during halftime show at a professional game, and played in the first ever Iowa Girls State flag football tournament. While the event did not officially crown a champion, our players were phenomenal in many more victories than defeats. There were so many exciting, highlight plays; see some in the KCRG video below!
