2026 Club Info
Age Groups & Roster Sizes
The RaZors field teams in the 10u, 12u, and 14u age divisions. We will field up to 2 teams at each age.
Team Makeup
We are an open registration, mixed-community club. This means there are no tryouts and our teams are open to anyone from anywhere. We are based in the Iowa City area but routinely draw participants from the surrounding area up to an hour away. Despite the fact that we don't focus solely on recruiting top talent or prioritize winning, we attract plenty of skilled and committed players and field teams that are competitive across the 7v7 landscape. We prioritize development (practice) and team bonding. When those are present, the results are favorable and everyone wins regardless of the scores. In 2025, we played in several tournament championship games an won a few as well.
Coaching
With the RaZors club, you can typically expect a top layer of objective, non-parent coaches to lead these teams and be invested in the development of every player. These coaches are adept at implementing our systems and have the most influence with decisions based on playing time, key positions, and other strategic considerations. That being said, we do also rely on some parent coaching as well. This is necessary to be efficient at practice and to cover multiple teams playing at the same time in tournaments. These parents are quasi-volunteers; there are some benefits available for parent coaches and they are expected to be present for the large majority of team events, not just 'when I can be there.' Preference is be given to those previously involved with the program and/or other 7v7 and football coaching.
Tournament Schedule
Our 2026 tournament schedule is still TBD. We typically aim to play in 7 events between March and July. These events are held on weekends, the majority are 1 day but a couple span 2 days. We compete in events hosted by MidAmerica 7v7 (formerly Iowa 7v7) and their affiliate clubs. These events are typically located within a 2-hour drive of Iowa City and rarely require a hotel stay.
Practice
Teams generally practice in Coralville on weeknights twice per week during the week of an event and once per week on non-event weeks. Practices for 2026 are TBD but generally begin in mid-March and last 90 minutes.
2026 Club Registration
It's always a balancing act to manage competitive rosters with players the can prioritize the 7v7 season versus others involved in multiple sports or with less experience/skill. Our aim for 2026 is still to have 2 teams at each age group with the following arrangements:
Core Team: For experienced players that prioritize 7v7 season above all else and expect to attend nearly every practice and tournament. These teams will have a smaller roster (12 max) and be primarily led by RedZone Staff.
Flex Team: For developmental players or those balancing multiple activities and expect to be more inconsistent with practice and event attendance. These teams will have larger rosters and likely be more parent-led.
How To Get Involved
